Sclairpipe is a tough, lightweight, solid wall high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe with a smooth internal surface. It is available in various lengths, diameters of 3/4" to 63" and can handle internal pressures of 50 to 300psi. Flexible and heat-fusible Sclairpipe comes with a range of fittings designed to work with the pipe as a complete system. Thermal butt fusion provides an economical and fast method of delivering a complete, long continuous length of pipe. The fused joints are as strong as the pipe itself, providing a continuous leak proof system.



Sclairpipe is well suited to replace copper, ductile iron and concrete pipe in many applications due to its unique benefits:


Leak Proof

The butt fusion method of joining provides an integral pipe-to-pipe joint without the need for mechanical connections. The integral fused joint provides continuous long lengths of pipe, thereby eliminating the risk of joint leakage due to ground shifting.



The flexibility of Sclairpipe allows it to adapt to uneven ground, unconsolidated river bottoms and excavated underwater trenches without the need for expensive foundations or minor degree elbows.


Corrosion Resistant

Polyethylene is inert to salt water and to chemicals likely to be present in sanitary sewage effluent and it is highly resistant to levels of chlorine that are typically added to water intake lines.


Light Weight

Sclairpipe weighs approximately 1/10 that of a similar sized concrete pipe. Handling requires a minimum of heavy equipment and Sclairpipe can easily be assembled on ice or through wet marshy areas.

It Floats: Sclairpipe will float even when full of water. For marine applications long lengths of pipe can be assembled on shore and then floated into position.


Classifications & Approvals

Sclairpipe has a cell classification of PE 345464C in accordance with ASTM D3350. In addition the Plastics Pipe Institute classifies it as a PE 3408 material. Sclairpipe is FM approved by the Factory Mutual Research Corporation, an internationally recognized test laboratory for components of fire protection systems. In addition it is CSA approved and NSF listed.


Proven in Many Applications

Since 1959, large diameter HDPE pipe has been used successfully in many installations worldwide. In North America, where large diameter, high density polyethylene pipe was introduced in 1968, Sclairpipe has been installed for river, lake and salt water crossings; both municipal and industrial fresh and salt water intakes and effluent outfalls. Sclairpipe has also been used extensively for pipeline repair and rehabilitation.

Wide Range of Sizes

Sclairpipe is available in a wide range of diameters from ¾” x 1” Copper Tube Size (CTS) pipe for municipal water supply applications and ¾” to 63” nominal outside diameters in Iron Pipe Sizes (IPS). At 63” it is the world’s largest diameter high density polyethylene pipe. The standard length for Sclairpipe is 40’ with 50’ and longer lengths available on request. Coiled pipe is stocked in diameters up to 2” and is available in 250’ and 500’ lengths. Larger pipe sizes and coil lengths are also available.
